The Origins of Metal Arts

The first true metallurgical techniques seem to have originated in northeast Iran, before spreading out to the four corners of the globe.

From then on, processes developed, and man began forging heated metal or melting it in moulds. Soon, they equally granted importance to the decorative role of objects, by bestowing on them a particular shape, or by drawing grooves or reliefs on their surface.

Base metals were first used; then the specific characteristics of each were exploited by creating alloys. Among the most widely used materials, we find gold and silver, which were highly valued for their malleability, and bronze, with its astonishing solidity.
