Did You Know ? (Porcelain)

Porcelain, a ceramic paste made from white clay, appeared for the first time in China. It reached the shores of Europe only much later on, during the first commercial trading between the West and East.

Around the 17th century, it's believed that the near totality of richly decorated, Chinese porcelain works was exported to Europe. Westerners particularly appreciated China's blue-and-white porcelain, which enjoyed quite a vogue and were relatively inexpensive.
