Negative

A negative is a piece of photographic film on which light has acted in a way so as to capture an image, whose tints and colors will be inverted when applied to a medium.

Thus, from negative to photograph, dark becomes light, red turns into cyan, green changes into magenta and blue turns yellow. The invention of the negative dates back to 1835, shortly before the manufacture of the first cameras, and is attributed to Henry Fox Talbot.
