Pottery Decoration

Pottery can be decorated before or after baking, according to the desired effect. Thus, the potter can color the clay before baking, or paint it after hardening. It's equally possible to engrave the surface of the object or deform it.

Pottery can preserve its matte aspect, as is often the case for antiques, or be varnished. Glazes used to give to give it brilliance can be either transparent or colored. After application, the pottery must be baked a second time to harden the varnish.
