Yellow Birch (Betula alleghaniensis Britton)
The yellow birch, commonly known as the wild cherry, is the symbolic tree of Quebec. It's characterized by its delicate bark, whose color varies from yellowish to gray. The wood of yellow birch, heavy and tight-grained, is not only a favorite with sculptors, but is also utilized for making quality furniture, plywood, and floors.

White Oak (Quercus alba)
The white oak is part of the Fagaceae or beech family and grows in southern Quebec and Ontario. Like most oaks, it can attain some 30 meters in height. Its hard, heavy wood, pale brown in color, is employed in not only sculpture, but also in cabinetmaking and joinery.

White Elm (Ulmus americana)
White Elm (Ulmus americana) Belonging to the Ulmaceae family, the white elm can reach imposing size (more than 30 m in height). They are found in northeast North America. Used in sculpture, its highly resistant wood, the color of which ranges from light brown to beige, is likewise used in furniture making.

Médard Bourgault (1897-1967)
Born in 1897 in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Médard Bourgault became, over the course of time, a famous woodcarver whose reputation soon surpassed the borders of Quebec. After finishing his studies, he turned sailor and traveled the seas of the world, before returning to his home town during the 20's to work in his father's joinery woodwork. [Read more]
