World Music
We call "world music" the ensemble of musical influences inspired by all the regions of the globe, and which distinguish themselves from those more widely known in West. The name comes from record marketing, during the 80's, which grouped together melodies of non-western artists.
Fiercely contested today, at a time when migratory waves make difficult such an attribution, the term "world music" designates just about everything that encompasses the folkloric music of foreign countries and which seems exotic in the eyes of the western world.
